Ever Changing Life
A poem I wrote in 2012. The only thing I recall about this is that it was inspired by a haiku I heard on a television show. Still wasn't a haiku lover back then so I free formed the inspiration.
Rising suns Glistening sky. Falling stars Darkening sky. Smiles grow. Frowns prosper. Children cry. Parents succumb to age. Natures thrives to grow. Industrialism thrives to conquer. Families wither helplessly in poverty. Families float carelessly into riches. Flowers bloom with life. Flowers fade to start anew. Bonds break. Bonds connect. People break from chains. People struggle in rusty cages. Snow falls to soon melt. Leaves grow to someday descend lifeless to the ground. Flowers graduate from the warmth of summer. The warmth turns into blistering extreme heat. Blood spills. Breathes cease. Sight welcomes darkness. Thoughts evaporate. Life begins to end. Through this all the sun rises and sets for the moon to rise and then fall. The earth rotates Seasons change. Repeatedly, over and over. And finally, I still have to get up in the morning just to take a breath.
Yet, within the sleeping self something keeps breathing on its own.
Beautifully bittersweet…
