Shadows

Shadows are the anchor 
of the soul
that martyrs itself 
against phantoms
who hex tragedies
from vignettes,
starring yourself,
into the present
after years of failure
to safeguard
an open scar 
from rock salt 
and stop
everyday 
from metastasizing
into yesterday.
