I love these lines "The heart is the strongest not when you steel it but wear it like armor, even if it only covers your sleeve" and wonder why they did not make it into the poem or actually, will they be another poem? The title captured me, bleeding hearts. Powerful!
Thank you for the comment. That line was something I had in my notebook for a while and couldn't find a place for it as its own poem or anywhere else but here. I wrote it when experimenting with turning common sayings on their head and couldn't justify making a poem from it. Surprised but glad it resonated. Makes me go back to other lines I wasn't satisfied with and look at them from a different perspective.
Rise breadlings crust over the ashes of fortunes and fame that burn in history books those tales of knights shining steel blinding eyes that glow as geysers meteors splash with cannon fire blasts. How long the bleeding heart beats is age old question never told shell shocked lads lying on the ground in pieces. No glory in an emperors war. They have read the annals of previous atrocities, but skipped a few pages.

That line is quite something. I not amazed you had a whole story for it! How cool is that?
These opening lines are so striking--wow:
"Glory to the ghost
of every bleeding heart
who challenges power—"
Thank you Margaret! That line came to me a few weeks ago and been dying to share it for a while. Happy you liked it.
Love! Authentic! YES!
Thank you for your comment Alicia!
