Other Side of the Track
Inspired by the week one prompt of "The Public Domain Poetry Project" by Tara Connor.
The railroad track is miles away. Next to it a boulevard of dead good intentions. Bereft of dreams. Brim-filled with people whose heartful flame hasn't been extinguished by the harshest side of Life's coldest shoulder but instead usurped by Power's negligence in order to feed a blackhole of trickle up wealth redistribution— an estate ostentatious in urban dilapidation. Despite being up to their gills in squalor and poverty, the souls of the forgotten are more steel than the railroad track meant to segregate and isolate. Tempered by thankless determination that what comes after them will at least have a pinch of a better lot.
Adore these lines:
"Next to it a boulevard of dead
good intentions."
Wonderful poem.
"... more steel than the railroad track" is wonderful! I love this. And I'm so glad you posted it. Never too late to reply to one of these prompts. No rules, just poetry.
